German lessons for your goals
Learners come to us for German at work, for meetings, presentations, emails and calls; for relocation or regular travel to Germany, Austria or Switzerland; and for exams.
Many also learn for a German-speaking partner. Lessons then focus on conversational German: visits to the in-laws, calls with relatives, and following the talk around the dinner table.
Every lesson is built around your level and your goals. One-to-one tuition means the entire lesson is spent on your speaking, listening, reading and writing.
Teaching takes place where and when it suits you: at your office or home, before work, over lunch or in the evening, which saves travel time.
Structured German lessons, A1 to C2
Lessons follow either a bespoke syllabus or the CEFR levels, from complete beginner (A1) to fluency (C2). Your tutor starts with an assessment of your current level and goals, then agrees the syllabus with you. Test your level online before your first lesson.

German exam preparation
We prepare learners for the Goethe-Zertifikat at every level from A1 to C2, for telc, ÖSD and TestDaF, and for university exams in German. You work through model papers under timed conditions.
Returning to German
Many adult learners took German to GCSE or A level and return to it years later. Your assessment shows what has stayed with you, and lessons build on it. Grammar comes in small steps, each one put to use in conversation the same lesson.
Questions about private lessons
How much do private lessons cost?
Private lessons are £65 to £90 an hour, depending on the time of day and the length of your commitment. Travel within Central London is included.
When is payment due?
Self-funded lessons are confirmed once payment reaches us, at least 48 hours before the lesson.
Is there a discount for a package of lessons?
Yes. Booking a package of lessons lowers the hourly rate.
Can you invoice my employer?
Yes. We can invoice your employer directly.
Can the tutor come to my office or home?
Yes. Lessons take place at your workplace or your home in London, or at our office at Warnford Court, 29 Throgmorton St, EC2N 2AT.
Can you prepare me for a Goethe exam?
Yes, at every level from A1 to C2, and for university exams in German.

Do you teach complete beginners?
Yes. A good share of our students begin with no German at all. Beginners’ lessons include some explanation in English, and we move into German as your level allows.
How long is a lesson, and how often should I have one?
Lessons are 90 minutes. Twice a week is what we recommend, leaving enough time between lessons for homework and revision. Once a week also works, the choice is yours.
How long will it take me to hold a conversation in German?
After a couple of lessons, you can hold a very basic conversation: greetings, introductions and simple questions. Everyday situations follow at A1 (about three months), familiar topics at A2 (five months), and meetings, emails and phone calls at B1 (one year). B2 takes about two years, C1 three and C2 four, with two 90-minute lessons a week and the same amount of self-study.
Who will teach me?
One tutor is assigned to you and stays with you throughout. You are not passed between tutors from one lesson to the next.
